Someone with no experience playing MOBAs or RTS games is probably not going to know what's going on, and assuming that people can just 'instinctively figure it out' is definitely going to be more off-putting to new players who get into their first game and don't know what abilities are, don't know how to open the shop or what gold means, don't instinctively know to right click to move and left click to target because outside of the MOBA/RTS genre, that's not always the default. I went and played it to cross compare, and it was way more engaging despite it being longer. It gives you a taste of what it feels like to kill things, and it keeps your attention as you go through it because of its sense of meaningful progression. It's waaayy longer, but they set it up like a story where you are a champion with a goal. Saying that a player should skip the tutorial and just learn from a friend who knows how to play is very alienating to new players, and a terrible business and game design philosophy. The things you learn from it can really be optimized to teach players things that actually matter in the game. It just feels like you aren't progressing in a meaningful way. The basic controls can be shown so much quicker, and the tutorial should give them some satisfying feeling to look forward to reaching again in the game. This being said, we all know that the tutorial sucks, but if it is one of the main reasons people aren't playing, shouldn't this be a higher priority? They played the first intro bot match after that, and some didn't even make it that far before deeming the game unplayable.
